Prospective Nanny

A prospective Nanny dropped in today. R is sweet, has a 16 month old daughter and a pleasant personality. The boy was shy when she spoke to him. The salary she wanted was on the higher side. We have to do the background checks and take a call.

Tumble

We went to Cafe Thulp for dinner yesterday with A,B,Aa,Ah and the boy ate a small portion of pasta and French fries. Child friendly, and a rustic inviting ambience. The service was slow though.

Took a tumble from the bed last night when he was playing. Sat down hard and flipped backwards onto the floor. Luckily he was not hurt. The past couple of nights when he gets up crying, he wants to be carried, lies on my shoulder and goes to sleep. Needless to say I don’t get much sleep.

Back to usual self

The boy is back to his cheerful self but has lost a lot of weight. I can see his ribs. On the bright side he has started walking more (he looks like the cartoon character Henry now with the shaved head and big shorts), can count till 3 and can identify yellow, blue and green colors. His temper is high. If we refuse him something that he wanted, and then give to him when he starts crying, he flings it. And when he is hungry for milk, he needs it like, NOW. Else the wailing starts. Can’t even wait the time for the milk to cool.

Today we met with our close friends from Chennai and their daughter I, who is of the same age as the boy. The boy is a jealous cat and protested when the wife talked to or held I.

Wedding and a road trip

No fever since Thursday and we decided to go ahead with our road trip to Kerala on Friday to attend a wedding in the family.
The night in Ernakulam was hard on the boy. It was hot and no air-conditioning. The next day we got a room with air conditioning. There was a pre-wedding party and the boy ate only ice cream. He slept well thanks to the cool room.
On Sunday, he slept during most of the wedding ceremony, ate a few bites for lunch and dinner.
He constantly yearned for the park and kept chanting Didi, Mo, Thatha (Aa, Ah and their grandfather) to himself, atleast twice in a day with a forlorn face. Refused to walk and wanted to be carried all the time. After staying with relatives in Trichur, we cut short our visit and got back to Bangalore last night.

Visit to doc

Yesterday morning, the boy woke up with no fever. That was short lived as the fever was back after lunch.

Took him to Dr S today. He started crying at the sight of him but then sat for Dr S to examine him. He asked us to continue with Crocin and if the fever goes up suggested Meftal-P syrup.

For now the boy is ok. His eyes are drooping and enthusiasm levels are down.

Fever

The boy has fever - 100.3F. I bought a Vicks (Vicks V875IN Rigid Tip, I would rate it 5/5) thermometer. We could take his temperature only after he slept. Talked to Dr S and he suggested 6 ml Crocin every 4 hours and if the fever does not subside in 2 days, bring him in.

He has been mostly on biscuits, soup, banana, cheese and some milk.

Chilis

Last night we went to Chilis for dinner with the wife’s cousin AB. Nice ambience and we chose the upper floor as the music was muted. The open ground floor had it playing on high volume. The boy ate portions of taco and french fries. The moment he saw an older girl he went “Diddiiii”!

A the Nanny

Looks like she is not coming back.

6th day in a row, A the Nanny has not turned up. She called last Monday way past her usual time of 930 am, informing us that she was taking the day off. Ever since the wife quit her job, A the Nanny's timings have been very erratic. Frustrated we asked her if she was interested to continue and whether we should look for another nanny. She replied in the affirmative and that she will be in the next day. No sign of her after that. We have asked her friends to find out.

With no sound sleep during the night, our mornings are becoming extremely stressed with the cooking, cleaning, packing lunch/dinner and giving the boy a bath. He misses his usual morning trip to the park after his breakfast and "Pa" "Pa" is always on his lips.

The boy insisting on eating lunch on his own is becoming an increasingly messy affair. Today we put one old t-shirt of the wife over his clothes and it saved a change of clothes after yet another messy lunch.

Walking demo

It was a demo day, where in the boy walked back and forth when we asked him so that we could take a video. He was so excited, smiling from end to end,  walked back and forth repeatedly.

Body parts and Holi

The boy has started identifying his body parts. He knows where his nose, eyes, hair, teeth, ears, tummy, hands and legs are. He has learned how to remove his shoes on his own. And when he does something for which he knows he is going to be shouted at, quickly starts crying and if sitting on the wife's lap, hugs her and cries.
Today he saw people playing Holi throwing colors, shouting, water being sprayed and got scared. Didn't want to join them.
Dinner was messy, he threw rice all over the place, fought with Ah and was cranky.

Cutting nails

The boy decided to cut nails on his own today. So he grabbed the nail cutter from me, spread his legs and attempted to cut the nails. Good action but no results.

Disturbed night

Last night woke the boy woke up crying that lasted for more than an hour. He was quiet when he was given biscuits. And then started again. Check diapers, all fine. Finally slept just before 2 am after rocking on the pillow.

More steps and words

The boy is walking steadily while holding one of our hands. His legs are stronger and he does not falter. Though he stands on his own and takes a couple of steps, he runs more than he walks, thus stumbling.

More words have been added to his vocabulary. “Pa” and punching hands in the air/pointing outside is Park, “Pa” and pointing to book means he needs the book, “Didi” is Aa and “Mo” is Ah. And also "Thisssss".

Haircut time

It was time for the boy's haircut. Last time, B and A took him, and this time I decided to take him as Ah was getting a haircut. A drove while we got in the rear seat.
All went well while he watched Ah getting a haircut. When his turn came, he screamed. Created a big ruckus. So I sat in the chair, and held in my lap. There was no time to use scissors and was off with his hair using a Clipper and size 1 attachment. He looked miserable.

Reached home and after a biscuit, he was back to normal.
